Title
MS 1013, Exodus 5:8 to 6:30
Description
MS 1013 consists of two columns of text on a single parchment sheet. Its narrative describes the initial deployment of Moses and Aaron to Egypt in order to liberate the enslaved Hebrews from Egypt. The format is 42 lines per column - "Amudei Vav." This is a newer formatting that places the age of this scroll at approximately 180 years. Like other Tunisian scrolls, the scribal practices follow the older Spanish school.
The script exhibits the employment of "Tagin" (Crownlets), Nuns with elongated bases, the Chet of Rashi, and Lameds with short or no heads. The Yuds have no Kutz of Rabbenu Tam. The Tzades have reversed Yuds, and the letter Bets exhibit short heels. The Shins have all their teeth oriented in one direction.
