Title
MS 1016, Exodus 14:6 to 16:25
Description
MS1016 consists of three columns of text on a single piece of parchment that was removed from a Torah scroll. The text is written utilizing a 51 lines per column format. The central column contains the Song of the Crossing of the Sea of Reeds.
The condition of the parchment is good considering its age. However, the ink is showing signs of becoming brittle and scaling, losing some of its original lustre. The use of the Peh Kefulah is prominent in this part of the scroll, where it figures prominently in the "Song of the Crossing of the Sea." The writing style is simple and more arcane, figuring the use of "Square Dalets" and no Tagin (crownlets). This writ does not use the "Amudei Vav" format.
