It consists of four columns of text taken from Genesis 36:28 to 40:23 covering the dreams of Joseph, the story of Judah & Tamar and the sale of Joseph. The scroll is written on a double ruled Klaf Mashuach. The parchment is ointed on both front and back. The parchment remains in good condition, while the ink has already grayed. The fragment comes from the same scroll as MS 1034. This scroll is scribed in a classic Western Sephardic hand typical of the Spanish exiles that immigrated to Holland. The scroll is written in a 57 line per column format. It consists of one column of text removed from a larger Torah scroll. The narrative depicts the birth of Jacob and Esau covering from Genesis 25:7 to 25:28. Written in a 48 line per column format the scroll is in very good condition relative to its age. The scroll’s superb calligraphy makes use of very large bold letters. Typical of the above writ are the use of the CHET of Rashi, flat based SHINs with an angled right tooth, NUN SOFITs with their descendants emerging from the right side of the head and lack of YUDs employing the KOTZ of Rabbenu Tam.
