MS 1059, Genesis 1:1 to Exodus 8:1

Title
MS 1059, Genesis 1:1 to Exodus 8:1
Description
MS1059 is a complete scroll of Genesis. Because it was removed from a larger Torah scroll, it also includes parts of Exodus. In total, the scroll contains 74 columns of text. This section is attached to a roller with cello tape. Because of the above, it is impossible to ascertain if the accompanying roller is original to the scroll or if it comes from a separate Torah. The parchment is in good condition despite its age, with the script remaining integral and the letters jet black.
This scroll was produced in the Land of Israel some 90 years ago. It is written on a lightly ointed parchment (Mashuach) utilizing an Ashkenazi Bet Yosef script. The calligraphy is stunning and executed by an expert scribe. Although formatted to contain 42 lines per column, the layout does not follow the more modern Amudei Vav convention. Other salient characteristics include beautiful Tagin (crownlets) placed on specific letters at special junctures in the text.
