Title

MS 1051, Genesis 25:1 to 28:15

Description

This Torah fragment contains 8 columns of text written on 22-inch white Klaf. The text covers the pact between Jacob and Laban and his subsequent reencounter with his brother Esau. Other significant parts of the narrative include the sale of Joseph by his brothers and the incident of Judah with Tamar.
This scroll exhibits and exquisite calligraphy of Italian origin. The Italian hand borrowed heavily from the Dutch/Spanish School. The letters are large and bold making this a very easy scroll to read. The text is formatted to contain 42 lines per column, with all columns beginning with the letter VAV.
Of particular interest is the pointing above the word "ET" in the phrase "Et Zon Avichem." The parchment has dried and the aged ink is powdering and flaking off. Acute water damage can also be evidenced along the scroll's bottom margin.
