Title
MS 1005, Exodus 1:1 to 2:16
Description
MS1005 originates from Tunisia. It consists of two columns of text removed from the same Torah scroll as MS1012 and MS1024. The large gap seen on the above text denotes the end of the Book of Genesis and the beginning of the Book of Exodus.
Written on gevil, the writ employs an elegant Sephardic script. Typical of this writing style are the use of the Chet of Rashi, Nuns with elongated bases and Yuds hovering over them. The above scribal practices are not seen today.
The parchment has aged and is constitution is dry. It also exhibits a tear on the top margin. Likewise, the top and lower margins have also been trimmed. The ink is jet-black and holding well considering its age. The text is formatted to contain 51 lines per column.
