Description
MS1022 comes from the same original Torah Scroll as MS1021. This fragment consists of a complete "Yeriah" (sheet of parchment) containing five columns of text. One can see the cut bindings at both the right and left margins of the document.
The narrative describes the entry of Aaron the High Priest into the holy of holies on the Yom Kippur - Day of Atonement. The parchment holds the ink very well and the letters remain a jet black with no cracking or scaling. The writ is simple and unflourished.
Of note is the use of the letter "Chet" written as two "VAVS" connected by a pitched roof. In addition, we find the use of the "Peh Lefufah" (doubled-up letter PEH) at certain key points in the text. "Tagin" (Crownlets) are not part of this writing tradition. Each column is formatted to contain 51 lines of text.
