Title

MS 1026, End of Genesis to Exodus 14:28

Description

MS1026 contains Bible text from the end of the Book of Genesis to Exodus 14:28. The scroll is written on Klaf that is not "Mashuach" (ointed) using gall based ink that has presently decayed to a reddish brown color. Altogether, there are 10 columns of text written in a format of 63 lines per column. Some salient characteristics include a patch at the bottom of columns five and six. This patch is of later origin and meant to repair the scroll that had sustained damage at this location. The patch demonstrates a different and more modern hand. Likewise, the ink utilized to repair this section still remains jet black.
The text reflects a classic German Bet Yosef script, which was also common in northern Poland. Among the salient characteristics of this script are the elongated "Shins" with a rounded bottom, and letters "Tet” with a rounded bottom. "Mem Sofits" witness an elongated “tag” (prickle) at the bottom lefthand corner while the letters "Gimmel" feature wider than normal heads. The body of the letters"Alef" descend in a straight line, and the feet of the letters "Kuf" turn downward while curving slightly towards the right.
